Process Guidance
Overview
The Security Aspects Letter (SAL) allows the project customer to define the security measures and responsibilities required of the supplier in the delivery of a project. This can be either be for the external customer to FCDO Services as the supplier, or FCDO Services acting as a customer to an external supplier. Guidance Customers and suppliers should have access to their own Security Aspects Letter, however if this is not the case it is acceptable to provide them with a copy of the FCDO Services template for them to use and revise as needed. A SAL is generally only required for Tier 2 projects (see the guidance document for more information), however some customers may prefer to work with this document so ensure that you check their requirements when proceeding with the project. Once received, the SAL must be saved in the Security folder with links included in the Annex A of the Project Security Strategy document.
If the project or customers do not require a SAL to be completed the customers expected security clearance and document classification, handling, sharing, storage, retention and destruction requirements must be documented. In this instance, the other two processes within Stage 0 of the PPM (Security Clearance and Documentation) must be worked through.
